Speaking

I enjoy public speaking. Fact is, I’ve never met a microphone that I didn’t like!

I have spoken on valuation matters at national business valuation conferences (AICPA, ASA, and NACVA) and at training forums for ALI-ABA, the National Tax Institute, state CPA societies, chambers of commerce, estate planning councils, bar associations, law firms, and private banking groups.

Between 1996-2005, I was a lead instructor for NACVA’s Consultants Training Institute, which develops and presents professional education courses on business valuation and related practice areas. Missing the classroom environment, I rejoined NACVA’s live and online teaching circuit in 2011.

To date, I’ve spoken over 100 times to participants in NACVA’s programs. In recognition of my technical knowledge and entertaining presentations, I’ve brought home some awards, including Instructor of the Year and Circle of Light (the highest distinction given to NACVA instructors).

What I Like to Present

I’m not big on preaching theory, but rather explaining how theory gets put into practice. I do that by imparting not only what I know, but what I actually do … and my materials are filled with anecdotes, examples, and tools so participants can “see” the steps and understand the “how” and “why.”

What I’m Talking About Now

There are two themes that I am currently championing because I think they’re important, and no one else in the BVFLS profession seems to be discussing them.

  • Practice Development/Management
  • Report Writing

Titles of recent presentations have included: Building a Practice in Today’s Digitally Connected Economy, How to Turn the Practice You Have Into the Practice You Want, Using Social Media to Grow Your BVFLS Practice, Exceptional Report Writing, and Report Writing: The Final Frontier of BV Productivity.

I am happy to discuss how these subjects, or your proposed topics, can be tailored to your event.

What People Are Saying

I have been fortunate to have good public speaking mentors and organizations that have allowed me to speak about subjects I have passion for. The results are reviews I’m proud of.

I have known Rod for ten or more years. In that time, I’ve shared platforms with many speakers. Rod and I did a joint session at a national conference some time ago. I have never enjoyed working with another speaker as much as I did that engagement with Rod. He is highly professional, well-prepared, engaging and effective as a speaker and instructor. I look forward to the next opportunity!

I’d like to thank you again for coming down here to give your presentation on report writing. I think you hit on a number of issues we all struggle with in writing reports. I also think the attendees, many of who were seasoned professionals in this business, particularly appreciated this topic.

– Chris Mansueto | Cassel Salpeter & Co., LLC

I attended both of your presentations [at the AICPA FVS Conference], and as far as I am concerned, they were the best of the entire conference. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

– Gerald Shanker | Kreinces Rollins & Shanker, LLC

I attended both of your sessions at the AICPA National Conference in Las Vegas. I try never to miss your sessions or your articles in the various publications. Everything you put forth is practical for small practitioners. Thanks for your contribution to the profession.
